Adaptive Ski Lessons

Empowering people of all abilities through high quality outdoor experiences

AWeSOMe! Skiers

AWeSOMe! is open to anyone needing adaptive equipment or 1:1 instruction due to a permanent physical or cognitive disability such that it would not be appropriate for them to participate in the Brundage Ski School. All students must be medically stable. We offer alpine (downhill) ski lessons using adaptive ski equipment as

needed to achieve maximum independence and success. Snowboarding may also be an option for some students.

We work with people with a variety of disabilities including:
Visual Impairments – a person with complete or partial blindness
Developmental and Cognitive Disabilities – a person with a physical or mental impairment that affects his/her ability to process information and/or to coordinate and control his/her body.
Mobility Impairment – a person has the use of only one leg (three track skiing); or a person who uses a wheelchair or walks for short distances or periods of time (sit-down skiing)

How much does a lesson cost?

AWeSOMe!, in conjunction with the Brundage Mountain Resort, offers a lesson package which includes a 2-hour lesson, adaptive equipment, and a lift ticket for the lesson day.  Cost is $45 per lesson.  Thanks to our generous sponsors a limited number of  scholarships are available to our students in need.  The application for scholarships is on this website on the “Scholarship” tab.

Why do we charge for lessons?

Although Brundage Mountain generously provides lift tickets, ski rentals and the ski hut for our students there are, additional operating expenses that AWeSOMe! must cover, including:
– our greatest expense – insurance which is currently approximately $5700/per year
– a training budget for or all volunteer team of instructors and assistants
– purchase and maintain our adaptive equipment
– one paid seasonal staff member to coordinate activities
– plus general office expenses including our PO Box, phone, website, office and hut supplies and our membership to Disabled Sports USA

Based on our total expenses the lessons in the 2013/14 season actually cost us $48 per student/per lesson.  We have kept our lesson price for the 2014/15 season at $45 per lesson.
